Random thoughts from the front lines of humane feral cat management

Next adoption fair

July 11 (a Sunday this time), again at Petco in Sunnyvale. And yes, IBOKR will be joining us again.

Today's adoption fair

Well, it was an absolute zoo at Petco today. Alot of people came by to check out the cats we brought, it was quie crowded in the kennel area as people looked at and held them. We received about a dozen completed applications, many of which were good, so a bunch of cats should be going to homes in the coming week or so.

You know kittens are 12 weeks old...

... when the speakerphone goes off at random times during the day.

Idiot of the day

Here's something I was sent this afternoon:
whatever they're paying you, it's too much, if you're a volunteer, you should quit. your people skills suck!
That was in response to a statement that our foster space is full and we couldn't take kittens off her hands. It was something like the third time I had to say no, but she wouldn't take that for an answer.

Sheesh...

Black cats

As usual our fosterees that are black are very difficult to find homes for. Our partners IBOKR are reporting adoptions of some of their kittens, but rarely the black ones. Why is it that people don't want to adopt a black kitty? If you know someone who is looking into adopting a cat or kitten, please encourage them to not to ignore the black ones just because they have a more common color.

Another Cat Show

We're looking into a possible appearance at a cat show in Hayward in late July. Stay tuned.

Feral cat clinic availability

So, Lawrence Pet Hospital has run out of county feral cat spay/neuter funding for this budget cycle, and the clinic they did on May 23 was the last for a while. But they expect new funds in July, and should be starting up then. Additionally, I just heard today that AKAL/Berryessa hospital is re-joining the county program, and expects to be doing feral cats under this program in July as well.

More options are a good thing.
